Meaning
A few small round balls of falafel, fried golden brown, sometimes served on a plate. Falafel is made from ground chickpeas or fava beans mixed with herbs and spices, a staple of Middle Eastern cooking.
It is a favourite with vegetarians and vegans, and shows up in chats about meze platters, pita wraps and plant-based eating: “Vegan lunch idea: 🧆 with hummus and salad”. Since the balls look like meatballs, people sometimes assume there is meat inside, but falafel is entirely plant-based.
