Meaning
A torii gate, two upright posts joined by two crossbars, usually painted bright red-orange. It marks the entrance to a Shinto shrine in Japan, separating everyday space from sacred ground.
Use it for Japan travel, shrine visits, New Year prayers and anime settings: “Walked through a whole tunnel of red gates today ⛩️”. It is one of the most recognisable symbols of Japan, often paired with 🗾, 🦊 or 🌸. Don’t mix it up with a Buddhist temple.
