Ten ways to make letters heavier or slanted

This page gathers every bold and italic style in one place. Bold (serif), Italic (serif) and Bold italic (serif) look like a classic book typeface. Bold (sans), Italic (sans) and Bold italic (sans) match the clean lettering most phone apps use. Four playful mixes change style on every other letter: Alternating bold, Alternating italic, Bold with alternating italic and Italic, mixed serifs, which turns “Mixed” into 𝘔𝑖𝘹𝑒𝘥.

Numbers follow along in the bold styles, so 2026 becomes 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. Plain serif italic has no matching digits, so numbers stay as you typed them in that one.

Why it works where the bold button is missing

Social apps usually drop formatting from pasted text, and many fields, such as an Instagram bio, have no bold button at all. These styles get around that because each letter is swapped for a separate Unicode character that already looks bold or slanted. The app treats them as ordinary text, so the look survives copy and paste in most places that accept plain text.

Accented letters keep their marks: “Tiếng Việt” comes out as 𝐓𝐢𝐞̂́𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐞̣̂𝐭. The letter “đ” has no bold or italic version, so it stays as typed.

Bold one word, not the whole caption

Emphasis works when it is rare. Highlight the word you want people to notice, as in “Sale ends 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁”, and leave the rest alone. A whole caption in bold is harder to read and loses its punch. It also costs some readers: screen readers may spell styled words letter by letter or skip them, and search inside apps may not find them. Keep names, prices, dates and links in normal text.

Changed your mind? Paste styled text into the unstyle tool to get plain letters back.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a font?

No. A font only changes how your own device draws letters, and it does not travel with copied text. This tool swaps each letter for a different Unicode character designed to look bold or italic, so the style goes wherever the text goes.

Why do some bold letters show up as empty boxes?

The bold and italic characters live in the math section of Unicode. Current phones and computers almost always include them, but an older device or an unusual font may not, and then it draws an empty box instead.

Can I make accented letters bold, like é or ñ?

Yes. The accent is placed on top of the styled letter, so “café” becomes 𝐜𝐚𝐟𝐞́. On some screens the mark may sit slightly off center.

Will screen readers read my bold text?

Not reliably. Some read each styled letter on its own or announce it as a math symbol, so use these styles for short highlights and keep important information in plain text.
