Six ways to wrap your letters
Bubble draws each letter and digit inside a thin circle: Ⓗⓔⓛⓛⓞ or ①②③. Black bubble fills the circles in, turns every letter into a capital and uses filled numbers: 🅞🅚. Alternating bubble switches between the two: ⓑ🅤ⓑ🅑ⓛ🅔. Parenthesis puts letters in round brackets instead: 🄗⒤ ⑵. Bubble and black bubble have circled versions of every digit, while Parenthesis brackets 1 to 9 and leaves 0 as it is.
The last two work differently. Big bubbles (H⃝i⃝) and Keycaps (G⃣O⃣) keep your normal letter and add a ring or key shape on top of it. That lets them wrap any character, but the result depends heavily on the device: the shape may sit neatly around the letter, drift beside it or not show at all.
What happens to accents
Fonts can’t stack accent marks on a circled letter, and trying usually produces a broken box, so the circled styles keep the letter and drop the mark: “Việt” becomes Ⓥⓘⓔⓣ. The letter “đ” has no circled form and stays as typed. Readers can usually still work out the word, but check names carefully. Big bubbles and keycaps keep accents, because they use your original letters.
Use bubbles for fun, not for facts
Bubble letters are great for a playful word in a caption, a gaming nickname or a decorated heading in a group chat. They are tiring to read in long text, screen readers often read each circled letter separately, and in-app search won’t match them with ordinary spelling. For a boxier take on the same idea, try square text.
Frequently asked questions
Why do black bubble letters show as boxes when white ones work?
White bubble letters are in an old, widely supported part of Unicode. The black circled letters and the bracketed capitals were added later, so older phones and computers are more likely to show boxes for them.
Why does black bubble turn everything into capitals?
Unicode only has filled circled versions of the capital letters, so lowercase letters are converted to capitals to keep the style consistent.
Why do big bubbles look misaligned?
They use an enclosing mark that every font positions in its own way. On some screens the ring fits nicely; on others it sits off to the side, so preview the result before you post.
Can screen readers read bubble text?
Usually not well. Many announce each circled letter as a symbol, so a short word can turn into a long string of names. Keep anything important in plain text.
