Meaning
A bamboo branch hung with colourful paper strips, the wish tree of Japan’s Tanabata star festival.
During the festival, people write wishes on the strips, inspired by the legend of two star-crossed lovers who meet once a year across the Milky Way: “Wrote my wish on a 🎋 strip, fingers crossed.” Outside Japan it is also used for wishes, bamboo or a calm, natural mood.
