Why your spacing disappears

Many apps tidy up text when you save a bio or post a caption: they trim spaces at the start of a line and squeeze several empty lines into one, or into none. The text you carefully spaced out arrives as one dense block. The fix is to put something on those empty lines, and in front of indents, that the app does not treat as whitespace but readers will barely notice.

Type or paste your text with the breaks you want, whether it is an Instagram bio, a TikTok caption or a short poem, then copy one of the five outputs. Lines with words keep their content; spaces at the end of a line are trimmed, and a line holding only spaces counts as empty.

The five outputs

Force line breaks fills each empty line with the Braille blank (U+2800), a character that looks empty but is not a space, so apps that collapse blank lines usually keep it. Tabbed paragraphs starts every line of text with an invisible separator followed by an ideographic space, the wide space of East Asian typography, giving a first-line indent that is not trimmed away; empty lines get the Braille blank too. Double tabbed does the same with a deeper indent.

Pilcrow line breaks and section line breaks put a visible ¶ or § on each empty line instead of an invisible filler. The spacing becomes deliberate rather than hidden, which suits poems, group rules or a bio with a bookish feel.

Good to know

Results vary by app and can change when an app updates, so check your bio after saving. The invisible characters travel with your text: anyone who copies your caption copies them too, and search inside an app may not match a line that starts with one. Styled text is welcome in the box; letters from the fancy text generator and symbols from the symbol picker pass through unchanged.

Frequently asked questions

Why do the blank lines in my bio vanish?

The app treats an empty line as removable whitespace. Filling it with the Braille blank, which is not whitespace, usually stops the app from deleting it.

Will people see the invisible characters?

No. The Braille blank and the indent look like empty space. Only the ¶ and § options add visible marks.

Can I use it with fancy fonts or emoji?

Yes. Only empty lines, line starts and trailing spaces are touched, so styled letters and emoji stay exactly as you pasted them.

Does it work in every app?

It works in most apps that accept plain text, but each app has its own rules and they can change. Preview your post before publishing.
