How to use slash text

  1. 01TypeType or paste your text into the box.
  2. 02CopyPress Copy on the result you like.
  3. 03PastePaste it anywhere that accepts text.

Two slash styles

Short slash draws a small diagonal stroke over each character, n̷o̷, which keeps letters easy to read. Slash uses a longer stroke that runs from corner to corner, s̸p̸o̸i̸l̸e̸r̸s̸, and looks more like a crossed-out sign.

Like strikethrough, both styles add a combining mark after every character instead of swapping the letter itself. Your original letters stay underneath, so accents, numbers and symbols are all kept, and the spaces between words stay clean.

When a slash beats a straight line

A horizontal line reads as “edited” or “old price”. A diagonal slash reads more like “forbidden” or “cancelled”, the same idea as a no-smoking sign. That makes it fun for M̸o̸n̸d̸a̸y̸s̸, plans that fell through and topics that are banned in a group chat. If you want the edited look instead, use strikethrough text.

Keep the dose small. One slashed word lands as a joke; a whole slashed sentence is simply hard to read. Pairing the slashed word with a plain explanation in the same caption keeps the meaning clear for everyone, including people who can’t see the strokes.

Before you post

The longer slash covers a lot of each letter, so pick the short version for anything people need to read. The stroke is drawn by the font on each device, so on some screens it may lean at a different angle or sit off center; check a preview first. Screen readers may skip the slashes entirely, so a listener hears an ordinary word, and in-app search may not match slashed words.

Frequently asked questions

What is slash text?

It is normal text with a diagonal combining mark after each character. Apps that display Unicode draw the mark over the letter, so the word looks slashed through.

Why does the slash show up as a separate box or dotted circle?

That happens when the font can’t attach the mark to the letter in front of it, typically on older systems. The letters themselves stay readable.

Are accents kept under the slash?

Yes. The slash is added on top of the accented letter, so “café” keeps its accent: c̸a̸f̸é̸.

Can I remove the slashes later?

Yes. Paste the text into the unstyle tool and the marks are stripped out.
